Eco-Smart Materials and Producers:

♥ A recycled sheet of plastic covers the papers before weaving to ensure protection from water, use etc.
♥ Hand woven by indigenous Mayan men and women in Mexico.

About the Designer
In 2003, Nahui Ollin was established based on a need for environmentally friendly alternatives in fashion accessories. Since its inception, Nahui Ollin has filled that need and furthered their mission to provide ethical and fashionable items.

Nahui Ollin designer Olga Abadi discovered the ancient Mayan technique of binding everyday materials into handbags at a cultural festival in Mexico. She realized that this process not only prevents the emission of harmful chemicals into our atmosphere by recycling, but also allows for the design of unique materials now classified as eco-fashion. By combining this technique and her eye for design, Olga created the Nahui Ollin candy wrapper handbag.

Nahui Ollin bags are made from recycled materials. Defective candy wrappers are rescued before being brought to the landfills and used in the construction of each bag. It can take up to four thousand candy wrappers and four days for an individual artisan to construct one bag. Nahui Ollin's unique process ensures that no two bags are the same, and while they are made from candy wrappers, gum wrappers, and soda bottle labels, they stand the test of time and weather for tear-free, long-term durability.
